Money Talks

8 minute read…one piece totally worth your time and 💵💵

The root

Money! Money! Money.!! It’s all about the Ssshhhhmoney now more than ever. 99% of the population wants to be rich and get this, it doesn’t really matter how one gets rich, they just want a lot of ‘It’.

(This is why Kenya reeks of corruption. We live in a greedy society where people only care about Self)

But can you really blame our society?? We’ve grown up listening to our parents, the adults around us and the media continually stating the importance of having money. ‘Soma kwa biddii ukue daktari ndio ukue na pesa mingi usipate shida’ (study hard, become a doctor and have lots of money) is what we constantly hear people state. And whether we like it or not, it imprints on our mind and we go about our days doing whatever it takes to fulfill this.

  • Plot twist..

So what happens when we don’t grow up to become doctors and engineers?? Or rather get into careers that don’t pay top dollar?? Again, we do whatever it takes to make the money. In other words, the greedy desperate gear kicks in.

As we speak, our generation is willing to do absolutely anything to make money. We basically sell our souls to the devil to make it happen.

I’m guessing you have an idea of what I’m talking about…no judgement here though.

  • The Economy Factor

…I know how hard our economy is getting as the days pass. It’s becoming more difficult to make money that helps us generate wealth. Kenyans right now are basically surviving. We are working to get food on the table and pay bills. (rent, water and electric bills and school fees) At the end of the day, it’s hard for a lot of guys to save or invest.

  • The Youth Talk

Today, the youth don’t appreciate the value of hard work, consistency and the value of the lessons we get from failing, and losing at certain stages of growing our careers and businesses. We walk around thinking that the world owes us… like we deserve everything that we think we want. But the world has a way of putting us in our place.

A majority of Millennials today want money yes but not to invest or grow themselves, they want it to impress strangers on the gram, their peers and to prove a point to their haters. It’s a sad reality.

  • The necessary money talk:

I believe in investing. Making smart decisions with my money now that I am a ‘yungin’. I realize that I’ll not always be 25 so I prefer trying to make the most with what I’m currently making.

I’m lucky I come from a family that is big on investments. I’ve been hearing about investments since I knew who I was and as a result, I’ve seen my parents mostly Mom, make investments that have either paid off, or sank ship…most importantly, I’ve seen her learning from all these experiences. She’s one person I respect a lot and she’s always my financial advisor when it comes to making major money decisions.

So here’s what I’ve picked up from my family, friends, and YouTube:

With investments one has to start as soon as possible. As soon as you start earning your coin, look for ways to start investing your money.

Now I know you’re reading this thinking ‘well I’ve always been saving my money.’ And that’s good. It’s great even because I have always been a savings person. As a matter of fact, that’s how I was able to buy my website and to have some cash that was able to support me during my whole process moving out. Saving is perfect. It comes in handy on emergency situations but money that you have saved mainly sits in your account. The great thing about investments though, is that you let your money work for you.

I know some of you are asking…then how do I start investing??

     A. Start looking for a Bank or Sacco that aligns with your savings and investment plan.

This will give you an idea of what you would want to do because these institutions have people to help you through the whole process. They will guide you come up with a plan that will help you achieve your dreams.

But note, today a lot of guys have fallen victim to Saccos and banks that have scammed them out of their hard earned money. So be very careful of where you decide to begin your investment.

      B.What to invest in:

Well what are you passionate about…you can either invest on a start up (any kind) or real estate. I personally have my eyes set on real estate. It has always been a dream of mine. I’m owning it today.

Money they say is the root of all evil. This has some truth in it but this only happens when you let it control the person you are. One with a strong character can’t change for the worst, rather it will help him or her become better and to help the people around said people.

Don’t try to please people

Hustle is hard but hustle harder and smarter but don’t forget to take a minute to breathe, be thankful and enjoy what you’ve achieved
